Being a raider in M&B is no different than just declaring war and killing citizens of a different region. I mean, technically you can, but there are zero systems in place to make it a believable experience. It's like saying "Skyrim lets you be a trader or a raider, you can do anything!". Its not like you'll be recognized for being some great trader, or be seen as some raider scum. You mention being a merchant or raider, but the reality of the matter is that doing something like going from town to town trading, or killing a lot of villagers and raiding places, doesn't actually do anything aside from the mechanic. Really feels like this is being blown way out of proportion. Don't even get me into the versatile and downright insane modding community that's made Game Of Thrones and Lord Of The Rings mods which will make your jaw drop
It really is the ultimate medieval wargame. Wanna gather your own warband and start your own kingdom, convincing lords of other factions to join your cause until you Calradia with an iron fist? That option is completely available to youĪnd there's so much, much more. Wanna join one of the factions as a helpful mercenary or, even better, become one of their vassals and go to war with them against their enemy factions? Sky's the limit buddy Wanna be a raider scum, gathering your own warparty and burning and sacking villages and attacking and robbing caravans as you plunder your way through Calradia? You go ahead and do that Wanna be a merchant, going from town to town, trading goods with the other merchants and villagers? Right on buddy After you leave the capital you've chose to go to it's all up to you as to what you want to do. You don't even have to complete the obligatory tutorial quest if you don't want to, the game doesn't force you to do it. And after the initial introduction with you arriving in one of the capitals of the kingdoms, that's where the game goes "Alrighty then, enough of the handholding, do whatever the fuck you want" And you can indeed do whatever the fuck you want from that point on. Mount And Blade: Warband is a medieval simulator RPG where you create your character and are thrust into a huge massive open world called Calradia where factions have been waging war for years and still are.
